Abstract
Dental implants are a solution for problems with retention of a freestanding prosthesis. If a patient has insufficient bone volume to allow for reliable implant placement, then the jaw bone has to be reconstructed with autologous donor bone. Placement of an implant in the required prosthodontic position, surrounded by sufficient bone and gingiva guarantees a good aesthetic outcome. After treatment loss of implants is very rare; the risk of losing implants is the highest in smokers and patients with parodontitis. Adequate implant planning and prevention of peri-implantitis are keys to the success of this treatment.
